Stop Disney Plus from buffering on Chromecast, Roku and Amazon Fire devices

When Disney+ was released in 2019, excitement filled everyone from young children to us older folks who love a bit of nostalgia.

The app was first launched in the US in late 2019 and not only does it supply Disney content from old classics to more recent releases, but Marvel, National Geographic, Pixel and Stars Wars content is also available for our viewing.

Disney+ is available on a variety of platforms such as Android ad Apple mobile devices, desktop web browsers, Amazon Fire devices, Roku, Sky Q, Now TV devices, Chromecast and more.

There’s nothing more irritating than when you find Disney Plus buffering on your Chromecast. So, let’s see how to get this fixed.

Disney Plus Chromecast: buffering

Of course, we’ve all experienced buffering on our devices before, but when it comes to sitting down to watch the new Lion King movie or The Mandalorian, the last thing anyone needs is a hurdle to overcome before relaxing.

So, with the aim in mind of getting this issue rectified for good, let’s run through some steps to take.

Firstly, it’s always advisable to check two things:

  1. Is your home Wi-Fi working correctly?
  2. Are you using the most up-to-date version of the Disney+ app and OS for your Chromecast?

If you can answer “yes” to both of these questions then we will continue to troubleshoot the issue below.

Check that your internet speeds meet the minimum criteria outlined by Disney.

Shut everything down, then load up again. You can firstly try closing dow the Disney+ app and restarting. If this doesn’t work, try shutting down all devices, unplugging at the mains, plugging everything back in and rebooting.

To take things a step further, you could even remove the Disney+ app, then redownload it to your device, then attempt to cast again.

Finally, clearing the cache on the app can work wonders for optimal functionality. Try clearing the Disney+ app cache by  going to Settings > Apps > Chromecast built-in > Clear cache > Clear data.

Disney Plus buffering issues on Roku

When any new app launches it can often encounter some teething problems. However, we shouldn’t still be experiencing buffering issues on a Roku device when using Disney+ today (May 2020).

To get things up and running on a Roku device, please follow the same steps as outlined above.

Should the correct Wi-Fi speeds be available as well as updated software, Disney+ should work without a hitch.

Power cycling, uninstalling and reinstalling as well as clearing the cache should get Disney+ working correctly. Cactus VPN outlines how to clear the cache on a Roku device in their tutorial here.

Disney + buffering on Firestick

Buffering isn’t limited to select devices, so if you’re encountering this issue using an Amazon Firestick, that’s a commonly reported issue, too.

Again, a quick restart of your Firestick (select the ‘Home’ icon > Settings > My Fire TV > Restart), can fix the issue. Alternatively, updating the OS and app can help, as well as rebooting your internet hub if you suspect that could be the issue.
