How to Turn Off Normalization in Spotify: Fix Your Audio

0

Spotify uses normalization to keep you listening to tracks at a consistent volume. Unfortunately, this might reduce the sound quality of some of your music. But how do you turn off normalization in Spotify?

Normalization, whilst a common technical feature used on audio apps, can sometimes hamper the experience of listening to music, particularly for those that listen to tracks that are created to be louder than others.

Not only that, but the normalization setting can also reduce the sound quality of music you’re listening to. The process of normalization frequently reduces the sound dynamic of tracks, meaning you might not be listening to a song the way it was intended.

Luckily, there is a way to switch off normalization in Spotify and other features to enhance your listening experience.

How to Make Spotify Louder Through Headphones

Turning off automatic normalization will increase the volume of Spotify through headphones.

This is because normalization regulates the volume of the music so that it all plays at the same level. Switching this setting off will mean some tracks will sound louder than others.

However, if you want to make all tracks lounder, you will need to keep normalization switched on – then update another setting.

Let’s look at how to do this.

How to Make Spotify Louder on Android

To make all tracks louder on Android, first, make sure your normalization is switched ON using the steps above, but instead of switching the toggle off, tap the toggle to ‘On’.

Next, in your Spotify settings menu, directly underneath the normalization toggle, you will see ‘Volume Level’ which will say ‘Normal’.

Tap where it says ‘Normal’ and you can choose two other settings, ‘Quiet’ or ‘Loud’. Select loud and close your settings.

This will now increase the volume of all your tracks when listening through headphones or speakers.

How to Make Spotify Louder on iOS

If you want to increase the volume of Spotify on an iOS device, again you will need to make sure your normalization settings are ON before adjusting the volume settings.

To do this, open your Spotify app and tap on the settings cog in the top right-hand corner. Next, navigate through to ‘Playback’ and make sure the ‘Enable Audio Normalization’ tog is ‘On’.

Once normalization is ‘On’, additional volume settings will appear directly underneath – ‘Quiet’, ‘Normal’ or ‘Loud’.

Select ‘Loud’, and close your Spotify settings. This will then increase the volume of all your tracks.

It’s worth noting here that increasing the volume as a standard across all music may impair the sound quality of some music.

The Spotify app on both iPhone and Android also features the ‘Equalizer’ setting.

This setting enables you to edit the sound dynamics of your music by using one of many presets. Alternatively, you can manually adjust the treble, bass, vocal or instrument settings using the dials on screen.

How to Adjust Spotify Equalizer on Android

First, open your Spotify app and tap on the settings cog in the top right-hand corner of the app.

Next, scroll down to ‘Music Quality’ and then navigate to ‘Equalizer’.

Here, you can switch between ‘Advanced’ or ‘Basic’ equalizer options, where you have the choice of preset audio settings or manually adjusting the settings to your preference.

How to Adjust Spotify Equalizer on iPhone

Open your Spotify app and tap on the settings cog in the top right-hand corner.

Navigate down to ‘Playback’ and switch the ‘Equalizer’ toggle on.

Here, you will be given the choice of several equalizer presets, or you can adjust each setting by tapping the dots on the equalizer manually.

So, there you have Spotify audio settings to enhance your music experience – including how to turn of normalization in Spotify.

Of course, you can regularly switch up your normalization and equalizer settings depending on the current album you are listening to. Audio settings can vary greatly depending on the track and even your speakers. So, you might find your audio settings change depending on the genre of music.
