Huawei P9 Lite Smartphone Review: The Pros and Cons (2020)

0

With so many different ranges of smart phones and brands, it can be difficult to know which one is for you, but that’s where we come in. In this Huawei P9 lite review you’ll get to learn more about the Huawei P9 lite and its features from battery life to memory and apps to screen quality, by the end of this article you’ll know if this is the right phone for you.

But before we get into our Huawei P9 lite review, let’s take a closer look at the Huawei brand.

Who Is Huawei?

Huawei are a multinational Chinese technology company who are most famous for their smartphones and tablets, but they also have a different range of smartwatches, laptops, speakers and earphones – all of which are very similar to Apple products, but Huawei instead use Android as their operating system.

They were founded back in 1987 and since that day they have worked their way to the top to become global providers of information and communications technology (ICT), infrastructure and smart devices.

How Long Does a Huawei P9 Battery Last?

The average battery life for this phone is around 6-8 hours depending on what the phone is being used for, so unfortunately if you were hoping that this phone would last the entire commute to work and back without charging it throughout the day then this might not be the phone for you.

The Huawei P9 Lite comes with a 3,000 mAh battery meaning that this phone should last for around 10-15 hours so this is pretty disappointing to know that you might be getting just half of the expected battery life.

It’s not all bad news though, if you just like to use the phone for a few text messages, some short five minute calls here and there and a quick scroll through of Facebook then there’s no reason that this phone shouldn’t last the entire day without needing to charge it up.

This smartphone probably won’t be considered as a ‘great phone’ if you’re somebody who likes to browse all social media apps, make lots of calls, check emails and send texts on the daily commute as it’s inevitable that the phone will need to be put on charge when at work so that the phone will last on the commute home.

But don’t worry, this Huawei P9 lite review isn’t just about giving feedback on these products, we’re also here to give solutions too!…

Huawei P9 Lite – How to Extend the Battery Life:

If you’re somebody who’s going to struggle with the P9 Lite battery life from being on the phone for too long on the commute to work or just looking for smart ways to reduce electricity consumption, then here’s some solutions to keeping the battery from draining:

  • Close all of the running apps
  • Turn off 4g and Bluetooth
  • Reduce phone brightness
  • Enable ‘Smart power saving mode’
  • Use airplane mode

Does P9 Lite Support Fast Charging?

The Huawei P9 Lite doesn’t support fast charging so when the phone is about to lose charge your only option is to use a standard charger and plug it into a wall socket and wait for the P9 to charge up as it normally would.

For anyone who is unsure what ‘fast charging’ actually is then we’re here to explain everything! Fast charging is an increasingly popular feature that allows you to power up the device in just a fraction of the time it takes to do it the old-fashioned way via a USB port.

The pros of fast charging is that number one, obviously the device will charge quicker and number two, as it’s charging from a USB port you can charge the device practically anywhere from a laptop, computer, portable power bank or even on the train!

EMUI is Huawei’s fast charging system which as we said previously is unavailable on this P9 smartphone. Huawei do support EMUI fast charging on some of their other devices which include the P Smart, P Smart Pro and P 30 Lite – as well as other phones.

When Did the Huawei P9 Lite Come Out?

The Huawei P9 Lite was launched in April 2016 and it’s the successor to the Huawei P8. The P9 Lite has the same design as the P8 but better features which included a fingerprint scanner and dual camera.

We don’t want to give too much away about the different features that this smartphone has in our Huawei P9 Lite review as we’ll be revealing all about them next!

Huawei P9 Lite Features:

So, the all-important section in our review and the bit that’s of most interest to you, deciding whether or not these features are good enough to make you want to purchase the Huawei P9 Lite. Let’s have a look at them:

Design: The Huawei P9 Lite is operated by Android 6 technology. This phone has an impressive screen-to-body ratio of 76.4% which makes it bigger than the previous model. It also has a 5.2-inch full HD display in-cell screen and a wider colour gamut so there’s more colour than ever on the P9. It comes with a slimmer alloy frame to give a greater and finer detailed design, you can also choose from a range of different colours which include rose gold, gold, black and white.

Specs: With the Huawei P9 Lite you’ll get 3GB of RAM (how much the phone can store) which isn’t much compared to other phones out there that have at least 16GB of RAM but of course it all depends on what the phone will be used for. The Huawei P9 is powered by a 1.7GHz octa-core HI Silicon Kirin 650 processor and has a memory storage of up to 16GB which is great for playing games, browsing the web or flicking through photographs.

Apps: Something that smart phones can’t do without are apps! Good working apps can sometimes sway a decision of whether or not to buy the smartphone – nobody would want to buy a phone that had slow apps that froze all the time. As this Huawei P9 phone is operated by Android, the pre-installed apps are mainly Google apps – Chrome, Play store, Maps, Gmail and YouTube as well as a few more.

Photo Quality and Security

Camera: A feature that’s important to budding photographers, selfie queens and ‘we need to take pictures tonight’ people. This phone has a 13MP rear camera and a 8MP front camera so whether you’re wanting to take a picture of some scenery or a selfie the P9 allows this to be possible with good clarity. There’s also a range of different camera features which include selfie mode, time laps and slow-mo mode.

Fingerprint scanner: Knowing there is an option to make devices more secure is definitely a plus when it comes to buying a smartphone and the P9 Lite has no exemption from this. This phone comes with specialised chip-level fingerprint security integrated with ARM TrustZone technology (a cost-effective methodology to isolate security critical components in a system, by hardware separating a rich operating system from a much smaller, secure operating system). So, all that’s needed to do when unlocking the phone is to simply put a finger on the screen and the P9 Lite will recognise the fingerprint and unlock the screen.

Is Huawei P9 Lite a Good Phone?

If you’re wanting a basic smartphone to use for texting, calling and looking through Facebook once in a while then the P9 will be a good phone for you if however a phone is a device you can’t live without and are constantly using it 24/7 then we wouldn’t recommend the P9 to you as it has a few flaws.

This smartphone has a great design and an array of colours to fit everybody needs as well as a camera that would be good enough to capture beautiful landscape photos and even pictures with friends and is it’s operated by Android there are a wide range of apps to download from the Google Play store.

The main drawback of the P9 is the battery life and the fact that it doesn’t last as long as you would hope. We understand that all you need to do is to charge it up, but when this needs to be done 3 or 4 times a day due to consistent use then it can be quite annoying.

And Finally…

It’s also unfortunate that the P9 doesn’t come with a fast charger as this might of redeemed itself for the lack of battery supplied.

Having said all of this, just because this Huawei phone hasn’t completely won us over it doesn’t mean that this is a brand you should avoid. Huawei offer a great range of different smartphones that are there to suit different people’s needs according to their lifestyles, so if this phone isn’t for you, be sure to check out their other makes and models!

So, that’s the end of our Huawei P9 Lite review and we hope that this review has told you everything needed to know about the smartphone and its features. If you want to keep up to date with more DigiHelpdesk news then give us a ‘like’ on Facebook or read our range of blogs for more helpful advice!
