Samsung TV disconnects from WiFi when turned off – Why does this happen?

Many Samsung TV owners have encountered the issue of having to reconnect their WiFi each time they turn their TV on. This is obviously very frustrating as once you’ve set up your TV and connected to the internet it should always stay connected.

The reason for this could be due to a number of factors including dual-band Wi-Fi, IP addresses, a faulty router and more.

Fix the issue temporarily

Like with a lot of tech issues, a full-on fix can often involve a hefty price tag or a lot of time-consuming phone calls to the product manufacturer.

To get this issue fixed quickly and temporarily, try the following steps below:

  • With your TV switched on at the wall, press down the ‘power’ button on the remote control.
  • Hold down the button until the television reboots itself.
  • Now, you should reconnect to the WiFi without having to unplug the TV.

What to do if your Samsung TV disconnects from WiFi when turned off

If you’re looking to sort this problem once and for all, we can advise the following options.

  • Always try turning all your equipment off at the wall, waiting 30 seconds and turning it all on again.
  • If you think it’s necessary, you can also try a factory reset of the television which may resolve the issue.
  • If you have dual-band wifi, separate the SSIDs and rename them.
  • Check that your broadband router is working correctly with other devices in the home and is in no way faulty.
  • Set a separate static IP address for the TV.
  • Connect via ethernet cable to the internet. Alternatively, if this isn’t possible, you can purchase broadband extenders. According to BT, broadband extenders “turn any power socket into an internet port, giving you a stable broadband connection for all your wired devices like Smart TVs”.
