Skype for Business Share Screen Option Missing

If you are using Skype for Business, you should have the option to share your screen with another Skype for Business user.

To do this, you can click on the button in the bottom right-hand corner that says, ‘Share Screen’.

If the share screen button is greyed out, it could be one of two reasons:

You’re Not Currently Active on a Call

If you’re not currently in an active call, the ‘share screen’ button will automatically be greyed out.

So, if you’re still calling and haven’t yet begun an audio or video call, you don’t have the option to share your screen.

Once the person answers, the share screen button should then become available. Click the button, and your screen will automatically be shared with other callers.

The other reason could be:

Your Skype for Business Needs Updating

Another common reason the share screen button is greyed out is because you are using an old version of Skype for Business.

So, you need to double-check which version of Skype for Business you are currently using.

To do this you can:

  • Click the ‘Menu’ button and navigate to ‘Help and Feedback’.
  • Once you click ‘Help and Feedback’ your current Skype for Business version will be displayed.
  • Screen sharing on Skype for Business is only available for versions 14 and above.
  • If you are using an older version, you can easily upgrade to the latest version of Skype.

If this still doesn’t fix the problem, it may be that the caller you wish to screen share with needs to upgrade their version of Skype for Business. To use the screen share feature, both callers need to be using the latest version.

If you are having issues using the screen share feature on a Mac, you might be facing a different issue. Let’s take a look at how you can fix this problem.
